Chicken Breeds: Cold Hardy Chickens
Cold Hardy Chicken Breeds
The cold hardy chicken breeds on this page are generally known to tolerate cold weather and are ideal for cooler climates. As a bonus, cold hardy breeds are among the best friendly chickens for the backyard flock!
If you live in an exceptionally cold climate, look for breeds with pea or cushion combs. Single combs can be subject to frostbite.
This list is a work in progress and very much incomplete, but we are adding new breeds every week!
Note: Breeders come up with new colors every year, and many are not recognized by the APA. The colors listed for each breed are often just a few of the many colors available!
