Garden Seeds

There are so many great companies out there, and we have seeds from many of them, but these three are where we get most of our seeds that we don’t save from from our own garden!

how to save seeds for a sustainable garden

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds

Baker Creek is so much fun to shop at, it’s easy to get carried away! Their focus is on rare, endangered and unique varieties. Their team travels around the world collecting garden seeds. Many of my favorite varieties came from here, including Lady Godiva Hulless Pumpkin, Black Nebula Carrot, Black Beauty Tomato and Carouby di Maussane Snow Pea, just to name a few!

Azure Standard

Azure doesn’t have near the seed selection of the other two here, but I’ve still gotten some really great new garden seeds from them! They offer some of their own brand and also sell Heirlooms Evermore. My favorite Azure varieties are Double Standard Sweet Corn and Dakota Black Popcorn. Azure also offers organically grown plant starts in the spring. You can meet their delivery truck when it comes to your town for free shipping!

Fedco Seeds

Fedco is fantastic for bulk seeds. They are 100% non-GMO, but have a nice selection of hybrid, heirloom and newer open pollinated garden seeds. They offer both organic and conventional seeds. If you need a lot of seeds, it’s hard to beat their bulk prices! Fedco offers free shipping starting at $30 and extra discounts starting at $100. They have a co-op option where your friends can get together to order seeds and get even better pricing. I’ve been using Fedco every year for ten years. It’s my favorite for seeds I use a lot of, such as bush beans, peas, lettuce and salad mix.
